Description

AERES is an independent administrative authority created by France's Research Programme Act of 2006, and set up in the summer of 2007. Its originality lies in the integrated approach to assessment, and it covers all higher education and research institutions, research laboratories and advanced programmes, excluding staff.
The agency is organised into three departments:
- The institutions department is in charge of assessing higher education institutions, research bodies, scientific foundations.
- The research units department is in charge of assessing the research units of higher education institutions and research bodies.
- The programmes and degrees department is in charge of assessing Bachelor’s degrees, Master's degrees and doctoral schools.
In 2010, the AERES was submitted to an external evaluation process conducted by peers to renew its full membership of the ENQA (European Association for Quality Assurance in Higher Education). In September AERES succeeded.

Role in Project
AERES has a well recognized expertise in the domain of external Quality Assurance. AERES has also a significant experience in Lebanon since it has already evaluated a Lebanese Higher Education Institution. Besides providing theoretical information regarding quality assurance models and quality standards, AERES will debate those aspects with the Lebanese partners. It will also support the training the Lebanese experts and especially by presenting how evaluation is performed within the AERES system.
